Eco- Serene are pioneers in the tissue-culture industry in Sri Lanka, serving many domestic and international clients with high quality plant material for crops and ornamental applications. We have made modern science work in producing stable, viable, resilient plants for the agriculture and retail industries in Europe, Asia and Australia.
We bring 20 years of experience and expertise to growers, retailers and to agriculture. Based in Matiyagane in the Northwestern Province of Sri Lanka, our facilities are nestled in lush green surroundings that serve as an inspiration to us in the greening of our planet, which we all believe is vital to our survival. We are a group of young, dedicated scientists – skilled, highly trained, motivated and committed to our work. Whether it is for bringing colour and joy to your surroundings, or producing healthy vegetables or fruit for the table, we are driven by the idea that the work we do in our labs is important to mankind. There’s no better news than the knowledge that a sapling that left our labs is flowering or bearing fruit in a distant place.
Established in 2016 by an energetic Sri Lankan Botany graduate from the Colombo University Isha Wimalasuriya, Eco-Serene commenced operations with an export order of exotic foliage plants to the Netherlands. Isha brought with her a decade of experience with a multinational-operated ornamental flower business, followed by another five years with a leading tissue culture lab in Colombo. Isha has won many awards and accolades for her work, which she insists are the result of the collective efforts of her team. She works alongside her staff in the laboratory and in the offices. She belongs to a new generation of female entrepreneurs who define success differently. For Eco-Serene, it’s not income and profitability, but the collective well being of staff and the community. It is the point of difference.
Eco-Serene are a boutique lab known for their customer-focus, where we work closely with our clients in developing material that meets their needs. We always strive for excellence to meet or exceed industry standards. We are committed to our craft, and choose the best parent specimens. We have quality assurance systems in place (GAP -EU Protocol) and processes that are stringently monitored. We have met bio-security control standards of countries that are known to be strict in application. You can expect and receive personal attention and collaboration from us. By remaining small we offer flexibility, speed, energy and action that few corporates can match.
We’re also socially responsible, providing high value skill training and employment to young graduates from rural Sri Lanka. We believe in sharing our success- which is the result of our collective commitment and dedication. We also support our staff in furthering their careers and education providing the impetus for social and economic transformation by capacity building in the wider community. It is a business model that places people before profit, engages youth, and advances in community sustainability. Tissue-culture will grow in importance and value as the world struggles to feed growing populations and meet nutritional needs of infants and children. We know that climate change will have an impact on crops and the viability of the agricultural sector. Tissue culture and biotechnology will become increasingly important in the years ahead. Eco-Serene is positioned to meet that challenge.
